EmS is a programme that brings together teachers and international students, who then plan and carry out a short project together in a school class. The focus of this project is the student’s home country and their perspectives on it. Teachers and international students are coordinated locally by local teams, consisting of students from local universities in Germany.

The EmS programme starts each year in September with a registration phase for all participants. Local teams reorganise or are newly established, and international students as well as teachers can sign up. A second registration phase follows in March/April.

The local teams organise and promote the programme. During the coordination meeting, project teams (teacher + student) are formed and initial project ideas are developed. In the following months, the teams further refine their topics in coordination with the school class. The project topics are diverse, but they must fit the class, allow room for exchange, and have a European perspective. Each project consists of 3–5 lessons within a single class group. The goal is to encourage exchange and foster understanding of Europe.

At the end of the programme year, a local closing event takes place where participants present their results and reflect on the programme year.

The promotional video provides further impressions: EmS stands for lively, personal encounters across Europe.

Registration is carried out in German. More information about participating in EmS in Germany can be found on the German website.
